history
beginnings

the ministry of fcpo began in october 1971, when 2 los angeles police department officers went long beach, california attend bible seminar, unbeknownst each other. having recognized each other @ event, along number of other lapd officers, began meeting regularly read , study bible. began pray how share christ lost officers around them.


news of these meetings spread through department , ultimately, general public. @ 1 point, dr. j. vernon mcgee asked citizens of los angeles, on thru bible radio broadcast, not call police between noon , 1 pm because officers having bible study.


originally calling fellowship of christian policemen, group changed name fellowship of christian peace officers in 1972 include members areas of law enforcement community.


incorporation

the fellowship of christian peace officers incorporated nonprofit ministry in 1974, , 1978 had own logo , newsletter, christian peace officer. news of ministry spread, , other christians in law enforcement community burden lost officers began form local chapters.


fcpo-canada

the fellowship of christian peace officers-canada founded in 1983, following joint meeting between fcpo leadership , number of interested officers in canada. hosting number of fcpo chapters across canada, canadian officers joined fellowship of christian peace officers associate members recognized needed own entity. national office established in tillsonburg, ontario , began reach out officers across canada message of fcpo. national office subsequently transitioned woodstock, ontario , in ottawa, ontario.


although operated separate entities, fcpo-usa , fcpo-canada partner time time in various ministry endeavors. of particular note, 2 organizations provided $150,000 , much-needed manpower hurricane katrina recovery efforts in 2005.


relocation

with ministry in decline late 1980s, decision made in may, 1988 relocate fcpo-usa’s national office los angeles, california chattanooga, tennessee, in partnership christian business men’s connection , maclellan foundation. in 1992 organization hired first full-time director , installed first computer system. first fcpo-usa website established in 2004.


fcpo today

today, fellowship of christian peace officers-usa has membership of on 4000 officers, 250 local chapters across united states while fellowship of christian peace officers-canada organized along provincial lines, chapters in larger cities
