Route description Bay Freeway (Seattle)

the 0.7-mile-long (1.1 km) bay freeway, proposed in 1972, have been six-lane elevated freeway on curved box-beam bridge, measuring 180 feet (55 m) @ widest point. freeway have begun @ seattle center in lower queen anne, through lanes broad street under aurora avenue north. roadway have merged ramps connecting roy , mercer couplet , parking garage multipurpose domed stadium, later relocated , built south of downtown in 1976, form bay freeway. lanes have turned southeastward next park on lake union, passing 16 feet (5 m) on westlake avenue north , 25 feet (8 m) on fairview avenue north, before splitting ramps @ interchange i-5. valley street, located 175 feet (53 m) north of planned right-of-way, moved under bay freeway structure , replaced additional park space.
earlier plans called extension traveling southwest on broad street through belltown, including tunnel between 5th avenue , denny way, proposed northwest expressway , extension of existing alaskan way viaduct on elliott bay waterfront. extension deferred in 1969, remained possible future plan until entire project canceled.
