johann kaspar schmidt (october 25, 1806 – june 26, 1856), better known max stirner (the nom de plume adopted schoolyard nickname had acquired child because of high brow, in german stirn ), german philosopher, ranks 1 of literary precursors of nihilism, existentialism, post-modernism, , anarchism, of individualist anarchism. stirner s main work ego , own, known ego , own (der einzige und sein eigentum in german, translates literally 1 , property). work first published in 1844 in leipzig, , has since appeared in numerous editions , translations.


stirner s egoist philosophy

stirner s philosophy called egoism . says egoist rejects pursuit of devotion great idea, cause, doctrine, system, lofty calling , saying egoist has no political calling rather lives out without regard how or ill humanity may fare thereby . stirner held limitation on rights of individual power obtain desires. proposes commonly accepted social institutions—including notion of state, property right, natural rights in general, , notion of society—were mere spooks in mind. stirner wanted abolish not state society institution responsible members.
