the 2003 corona rally mexico – 17th in history of rally – proved crucial turning point. new facilities @ poliforum expo center groundbreaking in sport , this, combined 1 of compact routes ever, put event firmly in frame world championship status. total of 45 crews representing 11 countries crossed start ramp in guanajuato during 1 of spectacular opening ceremonies seen in sport.


corona rally mexico made debut in expanded 16-round world rally championship in 2004 season, running third round of series , implementing raft of regulation changes introduced fia season. in 2005, event again ran third round , first full gravel event of year, attracting 44 crews representing 17 nations. first time in series, fia junior world rally championship contenders ventured outside europe, corona rally mexico being second event in eight-round series.


for 2007 edition, 21º corona rally méxico, route re-designed, making more compact total of 850 kilometers. all-time record championship. event competed during march 9–11. france s sébastien loeb took win in new citroën c4 wrc, ahead of bp ford s finns, marcus grönholm , mikko hirvonen. rally made centrepiece conclusion of new nacam rally championship regional series when created in 2008. after first year nacam championship shifted mexican round rally sierra del tigre.


in 2009, rally run international rally of nations. in 2010 amid year-long fiesta mark 100th anniversary of mexican revolution , 200th anniversary of independence, wrc returned león.
