harry entered royal military academy sandhurst on 8 may 2005, known officer cadet wales, , joined alamein company. within year, in april 2006, harry completed officer training , commissioned cornet (second lieutenant) in blues , royals, regiment of household cavalry in british army. given service number 564673. on 13 april 2008, when reached 2 years seniority, harry promoted lieutenant.


in 2006 announced harry s unit scheduled deployed in iraq following year , public debate ensued whether should serve there. defence secretary john reid said should allowed serve on front line of battle zones. harry agreed saying, if said no, can t go front line wouldn t drag sorry ass through sandhurst , wouldn t . ministry of defence , clarence house made joint announcement on 22 february 2007 harry deployed regiment iraq, part of 1st mechanised brigade of 3rd mechanised division – move supported harry, had stated leave army if told remain in safety while regiment went war. said: there s no way m going put myself through sandhurst , sit on arse home while boys out fighting country. head of british army @ time, general sir richard dannatt, said on 30 april 2007 had decided harry serve unit in iraq, , harry scheduled deployment in may or june 2007, patrol maysan governorate. 16 may, however, dannatt announced harry not serve in iraq; concerns included harry being high-value target (as several threats various groups had been made against him) , dangers soldiers around him face should attempt made on life or if captured. clarence house made public harry s disappointment decision, though said abide it.
