the royal shakespeare company

his work @ old vic came attention of royal shakespeare company. in 1967 invited join them @ stratford upon avon headquarters , remained associated them until death. first appearance royal shakespeare company @ stratford citizen in coriolanus , during first full season company went on play courtier in trevor nunn s production of revenger s tragedy, first suitor in s ends well, donalbain in peter hall s production of macbeth, , third musician in romeo , juliet.


in 1970s played angus in macbeth @ aldwych theatre, london, udy in howard barker s hang of gaol, florence in adventures of awful knawful @ warehouse theatre during 1978, , chachava in caucasian chalk circle. decade ended mccormack playing borachio in ado nothing in royal shakespeare company uk tour started in autumn of 1979 , continued on spring of 1980.


the 1980 season continued mccormack taking 4 different roles in barker s loud boy s life when played costall, dampsing, streatham, , imber. starred macduff in barbican theatre s 1988 showing of adrian noble s macbeth , again in 1989. year played mr. hardacre in edward bond s play restoration, sebastian in tempest @ royal shakespeare theatre, , kent in almeida theatre s king lear directed cicely berry.


the 1990s started mccormack taking starring role gang member dolin in stage production of clockwork orange @ barbican theatre. returned royal shakespeare company 1998 , 1999 seasons when company alternated performances of 3 plays played mike in richard nelson s goodnight children everywhere, duke of milan in 2 gentlemen of verona, , baptista in bawdy elizabethan comedy taming of shrew. reprised last role small-scale royal shakespeare company tour of uk during summer of 2000.


during last few years of life mccormack played earl of salisbury in king john several times on 2001 , 2002 seasons, casca in julius caesar @ both royal shakespeare theatre , barbican, , filled 3 separate roles in gregory doran s season of rarities during winter of 2002/2003: lord audley in edward iii, bramble in eastward ho! , pietro in malcontent.

mccormack s occasional association royal court theatre company started in 1982 when appeared in g.f. newman s play operation bad apple. returned royal court in 1986 star in original stage production of jim cartwright s seminal play road. year appeared @ theatre upstairs in royal court s production of andrea dunbar s shirley. in 1991 took leading role in griselda gambaro s putting 2 , 2 again @ theatre upstairs , starred in 1992 production of timberlake wertenbaker s unusual play 3 birds alighting in field.

mccormack s other stage appearances include playing islayev during cambridge theatre company s (ctc) 1987 tour of month in country , pinchwife in country wife in 1991 cambridge theatre company. took on dual roles of chandebise , poche in feydeau s flea in ear welsh company theatr clwyd in 1993 , in number of non-company appearances played wangel in ibsen s lady sea @ blackfriars theatre in 1996, lord kent in haymarket theatre s 1997 showing of king lear, estragon in waiting godot in 2000 @ mercury theatre, colchester.


mccormack s last uk stage appearance nicholas in harold pinter s 1 road @ battersea arts centre during 2003. pinter himself particularly taken mccormack s impressive interpretation , wrote him afterwards, saying:
