in north-west there mehedinți mountains heights 1500 m, part of western end of southern carpathians.


the heights decrease towards east, passing through hills high plain - western end of romanian plain.


in south danube flows, forming wide valley, channels , ponds. important river motru river in east side, affluent of jiu river. also, in west side there cerna river forming passage between oltenia region , banat region.
