aber hall smoke-free, 11-story residence hall. floors 2-10 house 40 students on each floor. each floor l-shaped , occupied students of same sex. elevators , stairs serve floors. aber hall attracts students variety of interests in recreation (both intramural , outdoor activities) , wellness programs. grizzly pool, washington-grizzly stadium, rec center, , trailhead m nearby.

construction of women’s residence, dedicated in 1903, attests montana’s commitment coeducation. architect a. j. gibson chose simple, elegant second renaissance revival style third campus building. deviating specifications of original campus master plan, building faces end, rather center of oval. room , board had eighteen dollars month space seventy-two students. renamed craig hall in 1911 after first university president oscar craig, building housed school’s first 2 sororities. when new women’s dormitory opened in 1924, craig hall extensively remodeled classroom use.
the hall situated @ south end of campus. craig hall t-shaped , popular due larger rooms. triple, double , single rooms available throughout craig s 4 floors, each of divided 3 wings. bottom 2 floors house males , upper 2 floors house females. resident assistant , approximately 30 residents located on each wing.

all of rooms used double rooms. there 4 floors in hall, 2 of occupied females. each floor has 2 resident assistants , houses 60 students. duniway hall connects craig , elrod hall , residents of duniway share elrod s facilities.

the first men’s residence on campus renamed elrod hall, opened in 1923 seventy student rooms. near-twin brantly hall, facility intended part of 2 u-shaped residential complexes. helena architectural firm of link , haire drew blueprints renaissance revival style hall, reflects exuberance of spirit in campus buildings constructed under carsley-gilbert campus master plan. each floor organized horizontal divisions typical of style. red-brown brick, cream-colored terra cotta, , green spanish roof tile label building part of carsley-gilbert group.
elrod houses 109 male students on 4 floors. due rooms having sinks , availability of single rooms, elrod 1 of more popular halls on campus. elrod hall smoke-free residence hall connected duniway hall. students living in duniway hall share elrod s facilities.

the hall 11-story high-rise located on west edge of campus. jesse hall twin aber hall. l-shaped floors occupied students of same sex , elevator provides easy access floors. except first , eleventh floors, each floor accommodates 40 students. built same layout aber hall.

knowles hall, located directly north of lommasson center, four-story residence hall housing 260 students. each floor divided 2 wings, 1 of occupied males , other females. elevator provides easy access floors. knowles hall smoke-free building , popular because of central location. spaces reserved in knowles international students , members of honors college. fourth floor designated substance-free. floor s residents sign contract stating not possess, use or under influence of alcohol or illicit substances within living environment.

miller s renovation, completed in 1996, made substantial changes not interior exterior of building creating additional single-living spaces have proven popular um students. miller hall has capacity of 326 students living in either 3 bed suites (96), single penthouse rooms (40) or regular double rooms (190), sharing bathroom facilities located on each wing. suites consist of 3 bed rooms (approximately 8 x 10 ) entering shared living space. penthouse rooms located on fifth floor, tucked under peaked roof each room having gabled window. rooms furnished moveable furniture allowing flexibility in living space arrangements. each floor divided 2 wings, each wing being occupied different sex.

located on southwest side of campus, creating plaza elrod/duniway , miller halls, pantzer hall has capacity of 201 184 of assignments within four-person suites. there 8 single rooms private bathrooms available. each suite has 4 private bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, common living room, storage closet, refrigerator , microwave oven. during academic year, weekly custodial service provided bathroom areas. included in each room cable tv , high-speed internet ports. each room wired phone services should residents choose opt service. pantzer hall accessible students disabilities.

the placement of women’s residence hall prohibited further development of women’s u-shaped dormitory complex outlined carsley-gilbert campus master plan of previous decade. architects h. e. kirkemo of missoula , j. van teylingen of great falls designed building, completed in 1939, in renaissance revival-inspired style outlined older plan. yet architects not bound renaissance revival. liberal modern touches such towered entryway , asymmetrically placed windows deny emphasis of older style, , suggest subtle encroachment of art deco ideas. former women’s residence, renamed turner hall, houses offices.
turner hall, called new hall, built in 1939. in 1956, hall renamed in honor of mrs. belle b. turner, served dorm mother in craig, corbin, , new halls.
located @ center of campus, turner hall offers double rooms sink in each room. smoke-free hall has 4 levels , houses 116 women.
