reconstruction of murders

according czech media reports, authorities reconstructed case follows:


in morning of 22 may 2013, girlfriend of 1 of sons left house. @ 6:40 am, mrs. haroková called grammar school worked, saying had bad headache , take day off. police believe , 2 other victims killed between time , 8:00 am, moment @ mrs haroková s wristwatch stopped. post woman arrived @ door shortly before nine. doorbell answered dahlgren, accepted mail. 2 hours later, cleaner came house, sent away dahlgren after entering hallway. meanwhile, fourth victim, david, @ school, received text messages dahlgren s phone go running after return. david murdered after returning house around 12:30 pm.


security cameras recorded dahlgren leaving house later in afternoon. took taxi vienna international airport, 140 km (87 miles) away, reaching airport @ 5 pm.


discovery of victims









neighbors first noticed faint smoke in afternoon of 22 may 2013, wasn t until shortly before 10:00 pm day registered smoke coming harok family s house garage. neighbors entered garage intending extinguish seemed small scale smolder find 3 charred bodies inside, whereupon alerted authorities.


the victims stabbed , slashed death, each of them having dozens of stab- , slash-wounds in head , face. bodies of 3 of them wrapped in cloth , set on fire. due state of bodies police not able identify victims.


arrest

the next day czech authorities issued international arrest warrant dahlgren, who, later revealed, had passed through passport control @ vienna international airport before name appeared in international database. subsequently, @ around 1 pm austrian authorities alerted crew of austrian airlines flight os93 of arrest warrant. flight, carrying dahlgren, had left vienna @ 10:46 am , @ time flying on united kingdom. after contemplating emergency landing or return vienna, pilots decided safer continue flight. cabin crew instructed pretend not know suspect on flight. after landing @ washington dulles international airport, plane stormed u.s customs , border protection officers, arrested dahlgren , turned him on fbi.


the czech police made public consider kevin dahlgren prime suspect after had been arrested in usa, citing fears might have learned wanted status while on board of airplane, , react endangering other passengers.

kevin dahlgren, 20 year-old native of sacramento, california, graduated granite bay high school, , veronika haroková s cousin, came czech republic 3 weeks prior killings in order live harok family. dahlgren s acquaintance, identified kyle k. czech press reports, cited saying dahlgren trained in martial arts , had been expelled military school. newspapers further alleged dahlgren suffering psychological issues , had been sent czech republic parents.


kevin dahlgren , veronika haroková had same grandparents, emigrated czechoslovakia following 1948 communist coup d état. during flight, left 6-year-old daughter ivana, veronika s mother, behind. initial plan out of country following escape failed , wasn t until 20 years later meet again, when ivana first met sister sandy, kevin dahlgren s mother, had been born in usa. veronika s , sandy s families in contact , started visiting each other after fall of communism in czechoslovakia in 1989.


haroks learned dahlgren s plan come czech republic couple of days in advance, when contacted them, saying had bought airplane ticket , expected them pick him @ airport. indeed, picked him in vienna, accommodated him in home , taking care of dahlgren, doesn t speak czech.


according authorities, dahlgren sent messages other people on day of killing. @ 8:33, supposedly sent sms (text message) harok family friend planned return us. canceled class student whom tutoring in english 2 hours later. @ 15:14, sent sms harok family friend saying family had left vienna , follow them there.


the authorities further claim dahlgren had been boasting having managed knife on board airplane brought him europe, , seen walking in vicinity of victims house knife in hand 2 days before killings.


dahlgren s former babysitter, shauna seymour, described him trouble-free person. according garry o dell, dahlgrens family friend, kevin denied responsibility murders. dahlgren claims went jogging , found bodies after returning house. scared own life, wanted away fast possible.
