the first tropical cyclone of season developed on august 23, in eastern caribbean sea. not believed have strengthened further, storm tracked west-northwestward , struck southwestern hispaniola. weakened tropical depression turned more toward northwest , crossed northern cuba. on august 26, depression passed through bahamas, east of florida peninsula. heading due north, storm had transitioned extratropical cyclone next day. area of high pressure north , east of storm said have prevented recurving out sea, , cyclone skirted eastern coast of north carolina before being listed dissipated east of delmarva peninsula. storm reportedly caused heavy precipitation on august 29 , 30 in georgia , carolinas, while ships @ sea reported high winds, rough seas , heavy rainfall.
