in 1906, 2 years after creation of distrito de paz de villa americana, municipality received visit elihu root, united states secretary of state, had been attending , presiding pan-american conference held in rio de janeiro. after conference, root visited other parts of brazil (such araras), , informed of existence of americana. root expressed interest in visiting town, , received @ americana great emotion , affection. hundreds of residents received root @ nighttime, , because there no electricity residents carried torches. root touched reception.
