there no post-independence document of founding modern municipality of el oro. organization in accordance of cadiz constitution, rest of municipalities in country have been since 1820. city councils existed @ both tapaxco , el oro in 1820s , municipality has held both names. determination make el oro seat , name of municipality made in 1900s. located in sierra madre occidental, in tlalpujahua range, extends temascalcingo , atlacomulco. la somera highest peak @ 3,200 meters located next town of el oro. municipality has 36 springs, 7 natural deep wells, 54 arroyos, 18 dams , 5 aqueducts. main river here called el oro or san juan flows through canyon between la somera , san nicolas mountains. flow varies between rainy , dry seasons.


about 37% of land in municipality dedicated farming, these small plots crops local use. livestock raised here, dairy , pork products. there small light industry here commerce, concentrated in municipal seat. since end of mining in area, areas outside town have turned logging, stonework , crafts. more recently, tourism trade being developed take advantage of natural surroundings of area interesting architectural features can found in towns of municipality.


near capital of municipality san josé del rincon monarch butterfly sanctuary. these butterflies appear here november march. sanctuary has rustic lodgings restaurants, horse rentals, trained guides , handcraft vendors. sanctuary has educational programs designed promote conservation of monarch butterfly.


the brockman dam located 4 km south of town of el oro on road villa victoria. built guillermo brockman act reservoir water mines , homes of el oro , tlalpujahua. today, promoted ecotourism spot camping, picnicking , rainbow trout fishing. isolated, surrounded pines, cedars , few country residences. there rustic cabins rent here.


there unexplored archeological site between endotejiare , tapaxco.
