in act of settlement 1701, parliament altered line of succession throne. in order preserve protestant succession, parliament ensured crown pass sophia, granddaughter of james , first cousin charles ii , james ii. sophia s son george became king in 1714 , descendants, including incumbent monarch queen elizabeth ii, have reigned britain ever since.


the act introduced concept of judicial independence establishing judges can keep position long maintain behaviour . before 1701 judge s position held @ disrection of monarch , there instances of judges being removed position after making judgements monarch did not like. after act of settlement, judge removed office agreement of both house of commons , house of lords subsequent approval of monarch.
