hyman drafted 123rd overall florida panthers in 2010 nhl entry draft. @ conclusion of college career, panthers offered hyman nhl contract, hyman announced intent not sign panthers, , opted free agency.


on june 19, 2015, hyman s rights acquired toronto maple leafs florida panthers in exchange centre greg mckegg. on june 23, hyman signed two-year entry-level contract maple leafs.


hyman made professional debut toronto marlies on october 9, 2015, recorded first professional point, assist on byron froese s goal in second period. on november 7, hyman recorded first professional goal, short-handed goal against matt o connor of binghamton senators.


on february 29, 2016, hyman recalled toronto maple leafs. prior being recalled, recorded 13 goals , 20 assists in 54 games marlies season , lead entire ahl in short-handed goals. made nhl debut in game against tampa bay lightning later night, recording 15:58 of ice time, 22 shifts, 2 shots, , 1 hit. subsequently scored first career nhl goal 1 week later on march 7 against chad johnson of buffalo sabres.


on march 31, 2016, hyman loaned marlies in preparation ahl calder cup playoffs. considered favourites win calder cup championship, team eliminated in third round. hyman contributed 6 points in team s 15 game run. hyman played every game despite suffering injury (broken nose) vs hershey.


on october 11, 2016, hyman earned permanent spot on big club, , included on 2016–17 regular season 100th anniversary centennial team opening day roster toronto maple leafs. dressed season opener on october 12, against ottawa senators, on line fellow rookies auston matthews , william nylander. in first period of play, hyman assisted on auston matthews first-ever nhl goal.


during 2016–17 nhl season number of toronto maple leafs team records have been either tied or broken hyman. on february 6, 2017, hyman scored third short-handed goal of season, surpassing previous maple leafs record number of short-handed goals scored rookie had been held gus mortson since 1946-47. @ 6 games assist, hyman tied consecutive games assist rookie dan daoust, bob nevin, , frank nigro. on march 28, 2017, when playing florida panthers, hyman set toronto maple leafs record short handed goals in single season rookie four.


on march 15, 2016 hyman scored first multipoint game on october 7, 2017 recorded multi-point game 2 points in eventual 8-5 defeat on new york rangers


on july 5, 2017, hyman signed 4 year, $9 million contract extension maple leafs.
