coatit later in career
after entering service, both ships assigned main fleet, remained first several years of careers. in 1904, coatit assigned italian eritrea in red sea, before returning fleet service in mediterranean. both ships saw action in italo-turkish war in 1911–1912. joined escort troop convoy amphibious assault on derna, libya in late october 1911. thereafter provided gunfire support italian troops ashore, agordat being transferred benghazi. in october 1912 coatit shelled retreating ottoman troops in anatolia, commander of french cruiser bruix witnessed , protested violation of international law. shortly thereafter, ottoman government agreed surrender; signing treaty of ouchy on 18 october.
during first balkan war, broke out in closing weeks of italo-turkish war, coatit , international fleet sent safeguard foreign nationals in ottoman capital of constantinople, threatened bulgarian offensive. neither ship saw action during world war i, though agordat involved in occupation of constantinople following ottoman defeat in november 1918. both ships reduced secondary duties after war, coatit being converted minelayer in 1919 , agordat being reduced gunboat in 1921. neither ship served long in these new roles; coatit scrapped in 1920 , agordat sold ship breakers in 1923.
