this season saw first official international match take place against england. whilst series of england v scotland matches organised c. w. alcock had taken in london on previous 2 years, these matches never considered representative, scottish sides being composed entirely of london residents. in 1872, queen s park, scotland s leading club, took upon organise has entered history books first official international, despite fact there yet no scottish football association sanction it. appropriately enough, match arranged st andrew s day, , west of scotland cricket club s ground @ hamilton crescent in partick selected venue. crowd of approximately 4,000 people attended on day, although time of match had been delayed fog.
