in 1935, meisner joined faculty of neighborhood playhouse school of theatre , continued director of acting department until retirement in 1990, , served director emeritus until death in 1997. in 1928 neighborhood playhouse school of theatre opened doors. first class of 9 students had privilege of being taught theatre luminaries martha graham, louis horst, laura elliott, , agnes de mille. on years or teaching @ playhouse, founding member of group theatre developed , refined known meisner technique: live truthfully under given imaginary circumstances. meisner technique step-by-step procedure of self-investigation actor recognized 1 of foremost acting techniques taught today.
