teoctist arăpașu became patriarch because of support of third patriarch, justinian marina. communist government did not oppose him, known obedient , accept compromises. became known acceptance of ceaușescu s policies, including demolitions of churches in systematized areas , defrocking priests stood government. lack of reaction in demolitions of 22 churches in bucharest seen sign of collaboration regime. teoctist s public interventions included laudatory telegrams , speeches ceaușescu s achievements.
