The four areas of treatment Morita therapy
phase 1 seclusion , rest phase; according morita (1998), place therapy begins. period of learning separate ourselves minute-by-minute barrage of constant assault on our senses , thought processes loud , intrusive world. learn turn off television, close door temporarily demanding work, well-meaning friends, , yes, family. body returns natural diurnal rhythms.
phase 2 introduces light , monotonous work conducted in silence . 1 of keystones of stage of self-treatment journal writing. our thoughts , feelings come in indistinguishable waves , flood our minds. writing in our personal journals helps learn separate our thoughts our feelings , define different effects on our lives. in phase go outside… outside of ourselves , out of house , begin reconnection nature. leave solitude of phase 1 , go out of doors. breathe fresh air , feel sun on our faces. walk. walk , breathe. walk, breathe , reconnect world of nature has been shut out of our lives pain , stagnation weeks, months, years. move darkness light in both figurative , literal ways.
phase 3 1 of more strenuous work. morita had patients engage in hard physical work outdoors. call chopping wood phase. people physical injuries, phase move passive treatment given them others (i.e. chiropractic, massage , pain medicine) learning begin healing through stretch-and strength-oriented physical therapy program. mtm incorporates moving being treated learning self-treatment in both physical , psychological realms.
depending upon depth , nature of injury (of spirit, mind or body), phase 3 can short or long. becomes part of daily life, forever. pain resolves, pain needs managed. beneficial aspect of phase of treatment encourages engagement of understand right side of brain. recovering survivor encouraged spend time in creating art—writing, painting, wood carving—whatever puts them contact creative aspects of humanity.
phase 4 when morita send patients outside hospital setting. apply had learned in first 3 phases , use them challenge of reintegration non-treatment world. phase patient learns integrate new lifestyle of meditation, physical activity, clearer thinking, more ordered living, , renewed relationship natural world. not returning former lifestyle. instead, integrate new self imposed set of changes brought trauma, pain , limitations. re-integration world outside of treatment brings unanticipated challenges, survivor returns materials studied , perhaps counsel of teacher find coping skills allow them progress further , further on journey of recovery.
