on 9 june, fernando achieved career high ranking of no. 20, result of run @ french open. reached final of nottingham open raising ranking career high of no. 18. @ wimbledon, lost mario ančić in 5 set thriller in last set lasted on 90 minutes , ended 13–11, in fourth round. performance @ wimbledon championships brought world ranking no. 13. recent atp victory in umag (studena croatian open umag), croatia defeated igor andreev. afterwards, again improved in rankings 11th place. verdasco 13th seed @ open in 2008, , lost 23rd seed andreev in third round.


on 23 november, verdasco won fourth rubber of spain s davis cup final match against argentina, defeating josé acasuso. enough ensure team of victory; verdasco had played in doubles match of previous day , won, partnering feliciano lópez.
