at original disneyland version of attraction, riders embark , disembark small boat dock next hungry bear restaurant in critter country section of park. each 35-foot-long (11 m) fiberglass canoe holds twenty guests, 2 per row. each canoe has 2 guides dressed frontiersmen (or frontierswomen) @ bow , stern. these guides referred helmsman, bowman, , sternman.


riders/rowers given short lesson on how paddle canoe power boat after leaving dock. small children required wear life jackets. life jackets available adults cannot swim in event boat ever capsizes. canoe travels 2,400 feet (730 m) around tom sawyer island, located in center of man-made river, guides point out sights along way, such settler’s cabin , indian chief on horseback. ride’s length depends upon how fast paddlers , how other traffic on river.
