in earlier part of century british singers michael kelly, nancy storace , john braham prominent , example sustained international opera , oratorio works of handel, haydn, mozart , successors in british arena. braham, career thoroughly spanned opera stage , concert platform, established tradition in public recital continued successors down 20th century. arias or ballads english opera became concert standards in recital.
