a lighting designer (ld) familiar various types of lighting instruments , uses. in consultation director, dsm (deputy stage manager) , scenic designer, , after observing rehearsals, ld creates instrument schedule , light plot informing dsm each lx (lighting) cue designed triggered in script, dsm notes down in plot book. schedule list of required lighting equipment, including color gel, gobos, color wheels, barndoors , other accessories. light plot typically plan view of theatre performance take place, every luminaire marked. typically specifies approximate lighting focus , direction, reference number, accessories, , channel number of dimmer system or lighting control console.
a lighting designer must satisfy requirements set forth director or head planner. practical experience required know effective use of different lighting instruments , color in creating design. many designers start careers lighting technicians. often, followed training in vocational college or university offers theatre courses. many jobs in larger venues , productions require degree vocational school or college in theatrical lighting, or @ least bachelor s degree.
