pitching style

holland has ability throw variety of pitches right-handed hitters , left-handed hitters @ different speeds. primary pitch four-seam fastball averaging 94-95 mph. lefties, throws four-seamer, two-seamer, , slider (82-85). righties, throws balance of aforementioned pitches changeup in mid 80s , curveball in mid-high 70s. holland relies heavily on slider 2 strikes both right-handed , left-handed hitters.

2009

on april 22, 2009, holland made major league debut; pitching 2⅓ innings, allowing 3 hits, no runs, no walks, , striking out 2. on august 9, pitched first complete game, 7–0 shutout against los angeles angels of anaheim in anaheim. 2009 season, holland finished season 8-13 6.12 era in 33 games (21 starts).


2010

holland spent majority of 2010 in triple-a oklahoma city, , called due injuries other starters. after winning first 2 decisions, lost next three. ended regular season 3–4 record, , 4.08 era.


holland allowed 3 runs in 4.2 innings in alds against tampa bay rays. pitched 5.2 innings in alcs no earned runs, , crucial in game 4, earning victory against defending champion new york yankees. entered game in fourth inning 1 out , bases loaded, , got team out of serious jam while eating away innings protect bullpen.


holland did not have same success in world series against san francisco giants. in game 2, holland entered 1 on , 1 out in bottom of 8th inning, rangers trailing 2-0. holland walked 3 batters faced without recording out, , forced in runner inherited via final walk. holland s wildness opened door turned huge inning eventual champion giants, 3 of batters walked came around score. rangers lost game 9-0. holland pitched scoreless relief inning in game 4 4-0 loss, , rangers lost series 4-1.


2011

holland started 2011 season starter rangers, , despite 4.96 era, won 4 of 5 starts in april , may. lowered era 4.14 in june, virtue of first shutout of season. started off july inconsistency, failing make out of first inning against marlins. on next 5 starts, responded throwing 3 more shutouts.


in 2011, 16–5 3.95 era. led al in shutouts (4; tied fifth-most in rangers history), 3rd in win-loss percentage (.762; fifth-best in rangers history), , 4th in wins.


on october 23, holland winning pitcher in game 4 of world series against st. louis cardinals, giving no runs on 2 hits, 2 walks , striking out seven. pulled game after pitching  8 ⁄3 innings. rangers lost world series in 7 games.


2012

holland in 2014


he signed contract extension on march 20, 2012 worth $28.5 million on 5 years two-year club option texas rangers. holland finished regular season win-loss record of 12-7 era of 4.67 gave 32 home runs, fifth highest in major league baseball.


2013

in 2013, holland went 10-9 3.42 era in 33 starts.


2014

on january 7, 2014, holland suffered knee injury after fall while playing dog @ home. mri testing revealed torn cartilage in left knee. holland underwent arthroscopic microfracture surgery repair cartilage damage on january 10, 2014. placed on 60-day disabled list , sidelined until all-star break.


2015

holland strained subscapularis muscle during rangers first home game of 2015 season, , placed on 60-day disabled list on april 10. holland returned on august 19, 2015 start against seattle mariners. went 6.1 innings pitched 6 strikeouts , 2 earned runs earned first win of season in 7-2 rangers win. on august 30, holland threw complete game against baltimore orioles @ globe life park. last complete game on september 23, 2013. 8th career shutout. went 9 innings, no walks, no runs, 11 strikeouts, , allowed 3 hits. final batter chris davis threw bat when struck out , home plate umpire bill miller rung him on 8th pitch of at-bat, ending ballgame, , 6-0 rangers win.


2016

on november 8, 2016, texas rangers announced decline 2017 club option on holland, making him free agent. holland due receive $11 million in pay in 2017, , received $1.5 million buyout.


chicago white sox

on december 14, 2016, holland signed one-year, $6 million contract chicago white sox holland began season 2.37 era in 10 starts, afterwards, performance regressed immensely. granted unconditional release on september 5, 2017, after 7–14 record, 6.20 era , 1.71 whip through 26 starts , 3 relief appearances white sox.
