radcliffe took break through 2006 season owing injuries , in july announced expecting first child. comeback further delayed in 2007 result of stress fracture in lower back.


radcliffe chose not defend world marathon crown in 2007, in order undertake further rehabilitation, insisted wanted compete in next 2 olympics. made return competitive running on 30 september 2007, taking part in bupa great north run in uk on tyneside. first race in 2 years. radcliffe finished second behind runner kara goucher.


radcliffe made marathon return @ new york city marathon on 4 november 2007 won official time of 2:23:09.
