american foulbrood

american foulbrood has been present in new zealand since 1877.


european foulbrood

european foulbrood not present in new zealand. in 1990s suspected cases of european foulbrood found , wider survey of hives carried out samples proved negative.


varroa mite

the varroa destructor mite, parasite attacks honey bees, discovered in north island of new zealand in 2000 , south island in 2008. varroa mite classed notifiable organism under biosecurity act.
