the warren brook rises below crowborough beacon , enters medway right bank downstream of hartfield stream. powered 6 watermills.


old furnace / old mill, crowborough

this furnace mentioned in survey of 1658 , marked on kelton s map of 1747. old mill damaged fire in twentieth century.

tq 498 326 51°04′23″n 0°08′21″e / 51.073054°n 0.139209°e / 51.073054; 0.139209 crowborough furnace recorded being in existence in 1593. dam recorded 120 metres (130 yd) long , 3 metres (9 ft 10 in) high. woodeaves mill corn mill, standing of site of old furnace.


withyham (mousehall, mousehold) mill

tq 496 356 51°06′00″n 0°08′15″e / 51.100067°n 0.137599°e / 51.100067; 0.137599 corn mill. john pulman miller in 1574 , 1595, recorded mousehold mill in 1598. john camfield tenant miller in 1782, followed peter everest in 1788. j m w turner sketched mill c.1795. mrs everest tenant in 1798. alfred hall , thomas caffyn recorded in 1838. thomas caffyn miller in 1843, later taking ashurst mill. alfred hall miller sometime before 1882.


water powered pump, withyham

tq 496 356 51°06′00″n 0°08′15″e / 51.100067°n 0.137599°e / 51.100067; 0.137599 water powered pump erected c.1900 on site of withyham mill. had 8 feet (2.44 m) diameter waterwheel driving three-throw pump.the derelict pump house survives.

a furze mill recorded @ buckhurst park in 1693.
