the czech ministry of justice issued request preliminary custody of kevin dahlgren during afternoon of 23 may 2013 on basis of international arrest warrant issued judge in municipal court in brno.


dahlgren arrested on basis of international arrest warrant after landing in usa on 23 may 2013. application dahlgren placed in custody brought assistant united states attorney patricia haynes , approved magistrate judge theresa carroll buchanan next day. czech authorities have announced seek dahlgren s extradition. under czech-us extradition treaty, have 60 days file formal request (until 23 july 2013). dahlgren represented theodore simon, formerly amanda knox′s attorney, in extradition proceedings taking place in alexandria, virginia.


while there have been numerous cases of extradition of third country nationals either country other, there had never been citizen extradited usa czech republic. according czech ministry of justice, dahlgren may not prosecuted in usa crimes committed abroad, , if not extradited, walk free in usa.


dahlgren s legal representation had filed complaints against initial arrest, body search , against handing on of dahlgren s belongings czech authorities. these complaints rejected.


the czech ministry of justice filed formal request dahlgren s extradition on 12 july 2013. public czech television, has obtained 300 page long extradition request authorities, claimed evidence presented czech police included victims dna samples found on dahlgren s clothing. authorities had handed dahlgren s belongings on czech authorities, following arrest in washington. czech police concluded short trousers found in dahlgren s suitcase had blood stains on them: police alleged beyond doubt, blood of david harok, , further strong probability, blood of martin harok , veronika haroková. in case of 25 stains examined, blood not have stained short trousers merely abrasion. police have further secured bloodied knife , bar stool crime scene. however, according authorities, more weapons used in killings.


the extradition hearing took place on 12 september 2013 @ united states district court eastern district of virginia magistrate judge ivan d. davis presiding. concluding state needed prove probable cause, davis ruled dahlgren can extradited czech republic. ruling, if upheld, allows department of state extradite him, while department of state make own decision whether so. dahlgren s attorney, theodore simon announced appeal verdict. court hearing in matter supposed take place on 8 may 2015 adjourned. court hearing scheduled on 22 may 2015 - 2 years after murders - adjourned until 12 june 2015. on 1 july 2015, court in virginia heard dahlgren s complaint against being held in custody , decided detention lawful. dahlgren appealed verdict. in august 2015, court dealing extradition ruled dahlgren can extradited without waiting verdict custody, , on 31 august 2015, dahlgren transported prague, first u.s. citizen ever extradited czech republic.
