bussard worked on promising new type of inertial electrostatic confinement (iec) fusor, called polywell, has magnetically shielded grid (magrid). founded energy/matter conversion corporation, inc. (emc2) in 1985 validate theory, , tested several (15) experimental devices 1994 through 2006. u.s. navy contract funding supported work expired while experiments still small. however, final tests of last device, wb-6, reputedly solved last remaining physics problem funding expired , emc2 labs had shut down.


further funding found, work continued , wb-7 prototype constructed , tested, , research ongoing.
