since there still insufficient space in hostel, had on 30,000 overnight stays in 1934, palas rebuilt, providing 260 beds. ceremonial laying of foundation stone took place on 18 november 1934. work, took 11 months, cost 25,000 reichsmarks , included addition of kitchen, fachwerk building, on south side. on 25 october 1935, rebuilt building officially dedicated. in presence of members of hitler jugend, deutsches jungvolk, bund deutscher mädel, , both sa , ss, gauleiter gustav simon gave dedicatory address. stahleck became 1 of 27 jugendburgen (youth castles), used indoctrination of teenagers , young adults. between 1937 , 1938, turrets on shield wall built , chemin de ronde roofed over. visit rudolf hess in june 1938 prompted start of work complete rebuilding of keep, still ruined stump. plan reconstruct height of 36 m, 7 storeys, , name rudolf hess tower. however, existing foundations not have been able bear weight, ruin pulled down, , in november 1938, work began on new tower on smaller footprint. work on interrupted outbreak of world war ii.


from 1940 1942, castle served military hospital. in addition, in november 1940, students occupied luxembourg had been studying @ german , austrian universities when war began forced attend re-education classes there, , youth re-education camp set up. male schoolchildren , students esch-sur-alzette , echternach interned @ castle 4 months punishment protesting against announcement in 1942 of introduction of required military service in luxembourg , forced conscription associated it, participating in general strike followed. (girls sent youth hostel @ adenau.) of military age sent front. there memorial plaque @ castle, , state of rhineland-palatinate , city of bacharach have organised memorial events @ contemporary witnesses spoke.


beginning in january 1943, castle used internment camp german youth had shown insufficient loyalty party, such founders of catholic youth resistance group michael troop; taken stahleck concentration camps. june 1943 summer 1944, work , military training camp germans between 14 , 18 years of age.
