doc hudson not appear in cars 2 voice actor paul newman died lung cancer in september 2008. pixar decided having doc appear in cars 2 not idea. conversation between mcqueen , mater indicates doc died before second film. doc s memory lives on, piston cup renamed after him. during japan leg of world grand prix, 1 of commentators notes doc 1 of best dirt-track racers of time.
