bait al-hikmah, named after famous library, house of wisdom in baghdad, central library of hamdard university s main, karachi campus. houses on half million modern volumes thousands of ancient manuscripts, millions of clippings, translations of quran in on 60 languages, a.v. cassettes, postage stamps, coins , photographs of hamdard university/foundation activities, making 1 of largest libraries in south asia.
the foundation-stone of bait al-hikmah laid on 17 june 1985 then-president of islamic republic of pakistan, general muhammad zia-ul-haq. established hakim mohammed said, founder of madinat al-hikmah, humanitarian , philanthropist. after completion of bait al-hikmah first major , important institution of madinat al-hikmah, hakim said invited then-president ghulam ishaq khan inaugurate library on 11 december 1989.
the bait al-hikmah central library , center academic research used students, faculties, researchers, scholars , freelancers nationally , internationally. computerised.
the collection of bait al-hikmah library ranges books , journals, covering science , technology, medicine, management sciences, indo-pakistan history, islam , religion, traditional/alternative systems of medicine, social sciences , jurisprudence, literature in urdu, english, arabic , persian.

initiated in 2011, book bank (available students of hamdard institute of information technology) provides students reference- , text-books minimal fee of rs. 50/book (equivalent usd 0.5) duration of semester (which lasts 6 months). student of hiet can register book bank free of cost , registration remains effective maximum duration of 4 years (or until completion of degree in student enrolled).
