the mausoleum of mirwais hotak in kokaran section of kandahar, afghanistan.


mirwais remained in power until death in november 1715 , succeeded brother abdul aziz, later killed mirwais son mahmud, allegedly planning give kandahar s sovereignty persia. in 1717, mahmud took advantage of political weakness of persian shah (sultan husayn) , briefly conquered large parts persia.


mirwais buried in mausoleum in kokaran section of kandahar, in western end of city. regarded 1 of afghanistan s greatest national heroes , admired many afghans, pashtuns. steven otfinoski referred him afghanistan s george washington in 2004 book afghanistan.


there neighborhood called mirwais mina hospital called mirwais hospital, high school , business center named after him in kandahar. there schools , number of institutions or places across afghanistan built honor him. few direct descendants of mirwais living today among hotak tribe.
