havdalah (hebrew: הַבְדָּלָה, separation ) jewish religious ceremony marks symbolic end of shabbat, , ushers in new week. @ conclusion of shabbat @ nightfall, after appearance of 3 stars in sky, havdalah blessings recited on cup of wine, , use of fragrant spices , candle, braided. communities delay havdalah later night in order prolong shabbat. there different customs regarding how time 1 should wait after stars have surfaced until sabbath technically ends. people hold 72 minutes later , other hold longer , shorter that.
