at time of beginning of getúlio vargas dictatorship in brazil in 1930, americana undergoing profound economic transformation due rise of textile industry there (the city known “rayon capital”).


in 1932, during administration of mayor antonio zanaga, revolt known constitutionalist revolution erupted against vargas regime. americana sent volunteers revolution, , 3 of them, jorge jones, fernando de camargo , aristeu valente (from nova odessa, part of americana), perished during struggle. sacrifice remembered in americana day.


in 1938, mayor zanaga changed name of town villa americana americana, , due economic transformation of town, comarca of americana created on december 31, 1953 during administration of mayor jorge arbix. in 1959, during administration of mayor abrahim abraham, nova odessa made autonomous own municipality.


between 1960 , 1970, rapid development of americana caused many people relocate search work. because of size, there not enough room accommodate new residents , many lived on border of santa bárbara d oeste , americana, creating known today zona leste de santa bárbara (east santa barbara).


the same occurred because majority of population unaware of location 1 municipality ended , began. confusion came because municipial limits not yet determined. problem solved creation of major avenue, today called avenida da amizade (friendship avenue) became dividing line.


at same time these developments, problems created. sudden increase in population caused unbalance in public accounts of municípality, not ready such great number of new residents.
