after severe economic dislocation in scotland in 1690s, there moves toward political union of england , scotland. treaty of union agreed on 22 july 1706, , ratified both parliament of england , parliament of scotland each passing act of union in 1707. english , scottish parliaments replaced combined parliament, first parliament of great britain. sat in westminster , largely continued english traditions without interruption. forty-five scots added 513 members of house of commons , 16 scots 190 members of house of lords. full economic union, replacing scottish systems of currency, taxation , laws regulating trade.


prime ministerial government

the role of prime minister began emerge during period 1721-1742 robert walpole chaired cabinet meetings, appointed other ministers, , developed doctrine of cabinet solidarity.
