qasr ibrim known not organic remains, textiles have been found @ site. during roman occupation of site sandals, textiles, , leather fragments left behind. woolen fabrics believed have brought qasr ibrim in 23 bc romans. cotton fabrics not introduced until first century ad meroitic peoples. un-dyed meroitic fabrics differ wool of romans, has been found in blues , other bright colors.
the conditions @ qasr ibrim have preserved large number of documents, including greek, arabic, coptic , nubian. earlier documents written on papyrus, though parchment preferred material sacred texts. paper not common writing material in nubia until twelfth century. nature of documents range variety of religious , secular texts,including personal letters, , religious documents. these documents show significance of qasr ibrim frontier society, , importance of vast trade network.
