the middle has received positive reviews, citing unique , original characters along critics praising show s consistent standard , realistic portrayal of lower-middle-class families. holds score of 71 on review aggregator website metacritic of april 1, 2011. critics praise show s timing, writing, , acting, robert bianco of usa today saying, ...this series seems more assuredly offer first-class version of many viewers want: humorous, heartfelt, realistic @ middle-class, middle-america family life. praise has been, far, consistent, entertainment weekly s ken tucker saying that, in season two, middle continues ...a rock-solid show, saga of family struggling keep heads above choppy economic waters... in 2009–2010 season, middle ranked number 6 on metacritic s best reviewed new network show list. airing behind cancelled hank during first season, ratings not impressive, averaging fewer 7 million viewers. @ start of 2010/2011 season, abc moved show beginning of prime time block (8:00 pm edt) , ratings increased substantially, show ranking second in time slot cbs s survivor.
