history

deer park, mentioned deerpark, station located @ bridge on new york state route 231, until moved part of major reconstruction project of line @ ronkonkoma, central islip, brentwood, deer park, , wyandanch. original station built in 1842, rebuilt in 1884, , again 1936 bridge on deer park avenue (ny 231 did not exist @ time). 1987-built station built close former pine aire station near pilgrim state psychiatric center (see below), served replacement both stations, , planned replace brentwood station until public opposition brentwood thwarted proposal. result, people refer pine aire station rather given name. in process of reconstruction, former one-lane bridge blocked off.


pineaire station

pineaire (or pine aire) station stop along ronkonkoma branch of long island rail road in west brentwood, new york. located east of pilgrim state hospital spur combined deer park-pineaire complex. in fact located on east side of sagtikos state parkway on opposite side of intersection of pine aire drive (formerly edgewood road) , manatuck boulevard. station first opened around 1915 near former thompson s station across freight spur, , closed around october 1986, when 2 stations being combined one.


pilgrim state hospital station

the former pilgrim state hospital station located within pilgrim state psychiatric center in west brentwood, @ end of spur leading south main line. station opened during early-20th century , closed in 1978. remains of station can found g road becomes suffolk county road 106 on southwest corner of sagtikos state parkway underpass.


edgewood station

nearly century before current deer park station built, lirr station built between former deer park , pine aire stations in same area named edgewood station. station two-story wooden depot built in 1892 on grant avenue developer, existed signal stop. service began decline june 1911 , closed down in 1914. local residents used station scrap lumber. 1940s became site of spur edgewood state hospital, began west of current deer park station , ran parallel west side of grant avenue. hospital closed in 1971, , demolished in 1988. while existing deer park station located on west side of executive boulevard, site of edgewood station on east side of grand avenue , occupied miniature golf course today.
