hyman committed play princeton during 2010–11 season. however, decommitted after princeton tigers head coach guy gadowsky left school start division hockey program @ penn state. following gadowsky penn state not option, program did not have varsity team @ time. in may 2011, hyman offered full athletic scholarship , committed play university of michigan 2011–12 season.


during freshman season michigan wolverines, hyman recorded 2 goals , 7 assists in 41 games. scored first career goal on october 21, 2011, in game against northern michigan. in sophomore season, recorded 4 goals , 5 assists in 38 games. during junior season, recorded 7 goals , ten assists in 35 games. hyman selected 2014 bates/deskins award winner, honour bestowed upon university of michigan s top junior student athlete.


in senior season, hyman named alternate captain. michigan s leading scorer, , big ten scoring champion, setting new record 54 points, scoring 22 goals , 32 assists in 37 games. hyman became first michigan player record 20 goals in season since louie caporusso, , first player record 50 points or more since carl hagelin during 2009–10 season. hyman led team 17 multiple-point games, including 6 games 3 or more points. on october 24, 2014, hyman recorded career-high 5 points, , first career hat-trick against umass lowell.


in december 2014, hyman named 50th great lakes invitational tournament team, scored both game-winning goals against michigan tech , michigan state, lead michigan 16th tournament title.


following outstanding senior season wolverines, hyman named 2014–15 all-big ten first team, , named ahca first team all-american. hyman named top-ten finalist hobey baker award. selected sb nation college hockey big ten media valuable player.


on march 27, 2015, hyman received 2015 all-american athlete award national strength , conditioning association (ncsa) , eas sports nutrition. award recognized hyman s athletic accomplishments , dedication strength , conditioning.


in national awards ceremony @ atlanta history center on april 27, 2015, hyman honoured 1 of 5 finalists 11th annual coach wooden citizenship cup award, , recognized 1 of outstanding role models among athletes.


hyman graduated michigan history major in college of literature, science, , arts. three-time big ten all-academic selection , two-time recipient of big ten distinguished scholar award, having earned minimum grade point average (gpa) of 3.7 or higher previous academic year.


on may 4, 2015, hyman selected senior athlete of year award winner 2014–15 season @ michigan s bob ufer quarterback club s annual banquet, award won former standout michigan quarterbacks jim harbaugh in 1987 , tom brady in 2000. past recipients include heisman winner desmond howard in 1992, brian wiseman in 1994, marty turco in 1998, tj hensick in 2007, kevin porter in 2008, , carl hagelin in 2011.


on may 14, 2015, hyman part of quartet of university of michigan student-athletes named capital 1 first team academic all-district selections, announcement coming college sports information directors of america (cosida), , name put forward academic all-american consideration. on june 11, 2015, hyman named 2015 capital 1 academic all-america division men s at-large team, selected cosida. hyman second ice hockey player @ michigan named academic all-america honoree, following jeff jillson in 2001, , first named first team academic american.


on june 22, 2015, university of michigan athletic department named hyman 2014–15 michigan athlete of year. hyman third ice hockey player receive honour, following brendan morrison in 1997 , kevin porter in 2008.
