in weeks following disaster, wreckage salvaged , removed, exception of lst-480 (sometimes reported lst-353). rusting bow left beached during disaster. in april 1995, first memorial disaster unveiled: table-sized plaque sited on shore of loch. @ behest of congress, gravestones of unidentified victims in national memorial cemetery of pacific amended in 2000s (decade) recording unknown , unknown, west loch disaster, may 21, 1944 . navy commemorated 65th anniversary of disaster on 21 may 2009.
