walter zacharius (1923–2011) brooklyn native served in army in world war ii, taking part in d-day , liberation of paris. in 1940s , 1950s worked macfadden publications, magazines true confessions , true story. later, moved ace books, helped publisher a. a. wyn create ace double novels line of paperbacks.


after working chicago newspaper, in 1949 irwin stein returned new york, wrote comic book scripts quality comics (doll man, plastic man) , hillman periodicals before employment comic book editor st. john publications. in 1954, stein , wife helen began magazine company, royal publications, published pulp magazines our life , celebrity royal s east 44th street offices. during 1955, stein added magazines infinity science fiction , suspect detective stories (which became science fiction adventures fifth issue). during 1958-59, stein published 2 monster magazines, monster parade , monsters , things.
