lucy second son of sir thomas de lucy (formerly de multon) of papcastle in cumberland, , wife isabel de bolteby. succeeded family estates @ age of twenty-five on death of brother in 1308. in 1314 fought @ battle of bannockburn; after english defeat managed escape battlefield, later captured , ransomed. in 1318, appointed high sheriff of cumberland , assigned defend city , castle of carlisle against incursions , attacks of scots. in 1321 summoned parliament under title baron lucy. in 1323 obtained grant of castle , honour of cockermouth.


on 25 february 1323, luci succeeded in arresting andrew harclay, earl of carlisle @ carlisle castle treacherously negotiating peace treaty scots, harclay hanged, drawn , quartered. in 1323 lucy appointed governor of castle of carlisle. later, appointed warden of counties of westmoreland , cumberland during king’s absence in aquitaine.


lord lucy nominated chief justiciar (equivalent modern prime minister) of ireland in 1331 2 years. served second term high sheriff of cumberland 1337 1342.


he died on 10 june 1343. had married elizabeth de tiliol , succeeded lord lucy son thomas.
