on october 1, 2014, world bank approved financing of $159 million (usd) solar energy development project. project named noor-ouarzazate concentrated solar power project . financing intended expand development of moroccan solar energy complex goal of increasing complex s energy production. of october 2014, complex carries 160 megawatt capacity. project planners hope grow capacity 350 megawatts.


in november 2009 morocco announced install 2 gigawatts of solar capacity 2020. morocco has launched 1 of world’s largest solar energy projects costing estimated $9 billion. aim of project generate 2,000 megawatts of solar generation capacity year 2020. 5 solar power stations constructed. moroccan agency solar energy (masen), public-private venture, has been established lead project. masen has invited expressions of interest in design, construction, operation, maintenance , financing of first of 5 planned solar power stations, 500-megawatt plant in southern town of ouarzazate. first plant commissioned in 2014, , entire project in 2019. once completed, solar project provide 18% of morocco’s annual electricity generation.
