the juxtaposition of huge agricultural surpluses , many deaths due insufficient food shocked many, of administrative decisions happened under agricultural adjustment act. example, in effort reduce agricultural surpluses, government paid farmers reduce crop production , sell pregnant sows young pigs. oranges being soaked kerosene prevent consumption , corn being burned fuel because cheap. there many people, however, livestock in different places starving death. farmers slaughtered livestock because feed prices rising, , not afford feed own animals. under agricultural adjustment act, plowing under of pigs common prevent them reaching reproductive age, donating pigs red cross.


in 1935, income generated farms 50 percent higher in 1932, partly due farm programs such aaa.
