sr 147 begins @ intersection 60 (midlothian turnpike) in midlothian. south leg of intersection sr 653 (courthouse road), heads south toward chesterfield court house. sr 147 heads north huguenot road, four-lane divided highway heads north through expansive commercial area surrounds sr 147–us 60 intersection. state highway veers northeast , intersects sr 711 (robious road) @ hamlet of robious. intersection includes norfolk southern railway s richmond district rail line, passes through center of junction @ grade. sr 147 parallels railroad east, veers northeast through bon air sections of chesterfield county. state highway enters independent city of richmond south of partial cloverleaf interchange sr 150 (chippenham parkway).


sr 147 passes through southampton neighborhood of richmond s south side before meeting riverside drive @ partial cloverleaf interchange @ south end of huguenot memorial bridge, highway reduces 2 lanes. bridge crosses james river, csx s rivanna subdivision, , defunct james river , kanawha canal east of remnants of westham bridge, sr 147 s original crossing of river. state highway enters henrico county @ south shore of james river. @ north end of bridge, sr 147 expands four-lane divided highway curves east , intersects river road west of richmond city limit. river road provides access university of richmond, including university of richmond school of law , university s athletic complex, includes malcolm u. pitt field, robins center, , e. claiborne robins stadium.


sr 147 continues east two-lane river road through richmond s west end. state highway becomes cary street @ intersection 3 chopt road in center of rio vista neighborhood, riverfront contains wilton house museum. sr 147 continues southeast through affluent windsor farms neighborhood, contains historic, imported homes agecroft hall , virginia house. west of junction western end of sr 197 (malvern avenue), state highway expands 4 lanes, maintains east freeway interchange , crossing of csx s north end subdivision west of thompson street. interchange includes ramps , southbound sr 76 (powhite parkway), eastbound sr 195 (downtown expressway), , via thompson street, northbound interstate 195 (i-195) (beltline expressway).


at thompson street, sr 147 becomes one-way pair, eastbound following cary street , westbound following elwood avenue through carytown neighborhood, features historic byrd theatre, site of annual vcu french film festival. westbound street s name changes main street east of street s intersection sr 161 (boulevard). sr 147 passes through fan district, cary street paralleled 1 block south sr 195. state highway veers east pass through campus of virginia commonwealth university, veers southeast downtown richmond @ intersections 1 , 301 (belvidere street) on south side of monroe park. sr 147 passes through commonwealth club historic district , historic jefferson hotel, ellen glasgow house, , barret house before reaching eastern terminus @ 60 2 blocks west of virginia state capitol. 60 enters downtown manchester bridge on 8th , 9th streets , turns southeast onto cary street , main street pass through shockoe slip.
