from point, route heads north-northwest through community of rich hill , crosses richland township, becomes four-lane undivided south west end boulevard , passes through mix of farm fields , woodland commercial development, gaining center left-turn lane. road briefly becomes divided highway @ tollgate road intersection before continues past businesses five-lane road center left-turn lane, divided highway stretch @ entrance shopping center. pa 309 enters borough of quakertown , runs past more businesses five-lane road containing center turn lane. route becomes four-lane divided highway , comes junction western terminus of pa 313 , northern terminus of pa 663. intersection, road becomes north west end boulevard , runs past shopping centers, becoming border between richland township west , quakertown east. pa 309 enters richland township again , becomes five-lane road center left-turn lane, passing commercial development , woodland. route briefly turns divided highway again crosses west pumping station road , heads east of shopping center. pa 309 continues north past wooded areas , businesses five-lane road center turn lane, passing west of community of shelly. road crosses springfield township , becomes bethlehem pike, running north-northwest through more forested areas commercial development.
