on 16 august 1914 combined anglo-french fleet under admiral auguste boué de lapeyrère, made sweep of adriatic sea. zenta escorted destroyer blockading coast of montenegro. trapped seventeen french , british naval units consisting of battleships , armoured cruisers, prevented escape north. after allowing destroyer sms ulan away, sunk gunfire during battle of antivari off coast of bar, montenegro, loss of 179 lives. surviving commander paul pachner, officers , crew swam ashore , interned until 1916 (the anglo-french fleet did not attempt rescue survivors). imprisoned crew croats blato na korčuli, Šolta, tisno, biograd na moru, bogomolje, rab, imotski, hvar, trogir, split, Šibenik, vela luka, sali , zadar , 2 montenegrins grbalj , perast.
